Dear Sir,

Inclosure 2 in No. 1.

Chinese Central Railways to M. Simon.

110, Cannon Street, London, May 21, 1909. YOUR letter of the 18th May addressed to Mr. Addis has been laid before my directors. It is noted that the following resolution was to be moved by you at the mecting of the Paris directors held the next day, viz. :-

"The nomination of the engincer-in-chief being accorded to the Chinese Central Railways for the construction of the prolongation of the Hankow-Chengtu line beyond the Hupeh province, it is understood that the Chinese Central Railways will appoint a French engineer for the first half of this line. If this first half does not amount to 800 kilom., a French engineer will be eventually appointed for any extension, prolongement, or branch of this line up to a total length of 800 kilom.”

In reply, I am to say that the London directors agree to the above resolution, it being understood that the "extension, prolongement, ou embranchement " referred to is an extension starting from some point on the said "première moitié" of the line.

I am, &c.

THOS. GILBERT, Secretary.
